Freeware

Many freeware list could be found on the Internet. I draw my own list. Not to point out the TOP tools, but merely share my opinions. The tools are mostly for Windows platform. The web-based tools are considered as well. [在网上能找到许多推荐的免费软件列表。我也把我自己的列一列吧。列出的不一定是最好的免费软件，但都是我用过一段时间，觉得很好用，很上手的。大部分来自于Windows平台，也有基于web的在线工具。]

• Adobe Reader – Surely I have it on my PC. [既然是免费的，那么自然是PDF文件的首选阅读器啦。]
• PDFCreator – Very easy to use. A virtual PDF printer can be found after installation. [PDF文件生成器。安装之后虚拟出一个PDF打印机，所谓声成PDF就是在这个打印机上“打印到文件”就可以啦。]
• StarDict – Dictionary software, together with many famous dictionaries. [“星际译王”，一款很好的字典软件，还有很多很好的字典文件可以下载。现在还提供了在线的字典服务。]
• 7-Zip – compression program. A good tool to replace WinZIP and WinRar. [压缩/解压缩工具，支持WinZIP和WinRar的格式。用过WinZIP或者WinRar就一定会用它。不过，似乎不能压缩成RAR？]
• Firefox – A powerful, extensible web browser. [web浏览器。大名鼎鼎。有很多实用的插件！它和IE我都用。]
• Google Reader – A handy powerful online feed reader. [Google推出的在线Feed阅读器。刚开始可能会有点不太习惯，用用就发现他的好处了，快捷键支持的好，很方便。现在是我的主阅读器，Bloglines退居备份位置了。]
• Live Messenger – IM support both Microsoft and Yahoo Passport. [早就不用QQ了。现在国内的互通情况也大大改善！没有理由不用。]
• Google Talk (Gtalk) – Google’s IM. Light weight. [G老大的产品，小巧！简洁！实用！很Google！]
• AVG Free – Anti virus tool. [在学校的时候用了一年多，挺好的。毕竟，Norton什么的都要钱，而且，只要保持更新，自己小心一些，对付病毒没什么大不了的。]
• ZoneAlarm – Firewall. [用AVG Free的时候，这个就一直是防火墙了。配置过程需要琢磨琢磨，性能什么的都蛮好。]
• StreamRipper – A stream download tool. [可以用来下载音频流保存在本地。]
• StreamBox Ripper – A good audio file converter to mp3, wma. [一个小工具，可以用来把rm转成mp3。好用，但是好像需要先安装real player或者real的解码器。原始文件的下载已经不支持了，如果实在找不到，可以从这里下载。]
• PuTTy – SSH Client. Light weight. [SSH客户端。小巧，简洁，不过中文支持不是很好。]
• FileZilla – FTP Client. [FTP客户端，我现在基本上只用这个了。注意：缺省的是两线程同时下载，需手工关掉。]
• Gimp – Graphics processing tool. Photoshop like. [很像Photoshop的图形处理工具，强大！需要Gtk支持，完整安装时会自动安装的。比Photoshop要难用，毕竟是免费的啊！]
• IrfanView – Image viewer. [非常好用的图片浏览器，从mm那里知道的，爱不释手。]
• Picasa – A surprising image album manager powered by Google. [又是G老大的东东，“酷”就一个字！]
• PSPad – Text editor. [类似的免费软件有不少，Notepad++、JEdit等等，不过，用了几个之后，考虑到十六进制显示，中文编辑等等问题之后，还是选择了PSPad。如果有一天UltraEdit能免费就好啦！]
• Emacs – Text editor. [如果只说是文本编辑器那太委屈它了，它强大的几乎“无所不能”，尤其对于快捷健Geek们来说，没有比这更好的工具了。说实话我用它并不多，但这并不影响它的地位。]
• Daemon – Virtual CD/DVD driver. [将映像文件虚拟成光驱的首选工具。]
• IsoBuster – CD/DVD/Image tool. [除了刻盘，还可以扒光盘。]
• Windows Live Writer – An Excellent blog tool. Nearly not be considered as a traditional tool from Microsoft. [间接好用，太不像微软开发的工具风格了。这篇就是用它编辑的。]
• Foxmail – Email client. Chinese supported very well. [免费的邮件客户端软件里面这个对中文支持最好啦。]
• Gmail – The first huge webmail powered by Google. [G老大的第一个要用户注册的产品。]
• IsoBuster – CD/DVD burn tool, also handy to rip CD/DVD. [刻录，扒盘都可以。]
